Kevin Rowe - Principal: Coaching and Change
Kevin has over fifteen years experience in human recourses and organisational development. Working at senior levels in a large and complex federal government department, he headed the complaints resolution agency, reporting directly to the Secretary.
Earlier, as the manager responsible for managing long term absences he introduced a new strategic focus on the resolution of these high cost events. In doing so Kevin brought to resolution a number of long outstanding compensation cases achieving substantial savings for his organisation.
After leaving public service, Kevin worked as a consultant with the Personal Efficiency Program (PEP). He advised senior clients on the implementation of efficient work flow. More importantly he was able to demonstrate to senior executives their obligation to model effective leadership behaviours.
Joining changedrivers in 2004, Kevin created and established the new coaching practice. Focusing on organisational capability, he designed a wide range of coaching methods to address the many pit falls he has seen others experience. Backing his work with a thorough understanding of the challenges to effective and efficient change, Kevin has built a successful coaching business comprising ten senior coaches in Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne. Based on International Coaching Federation standards, the coaches are accredited and supported through our changedrivers Coaching Community of Practice which Kevin coordinates from our Canberra office.
Kevin has over 800 hours professional coaching experience, is accredited by the International Coaching Academy, and is a skilled telecoach with clients in China and North America.
Kevin's philosophy is to achieve organisational capability by building resilience in the workforce, commitment from managers and strategic leadership from executives.
Recent consultancies and other work:
| Designing the future of the organisation |
- Sydney Airports Corporation - As part of a roll out of a new IT service delivery method, Kevin developed and delivered a two day workshop on From Resistance to Resilience followed by a program of structured and tailored coaching to participants. The participants included the CIO, his direct reports and their team leaders - 6 per workshop. Coaching was focussed on behavioural and leadership changes required from the successful transition to the new environment. Through this program, the participants were able to identify the behaviours that represented barriers to the effective introduction of the new system and the strategies required to address these impediments to change.

| Developing leadership capabilities |
- Defence - Information Systems - The information systems organisation within the Department of Defence was implementing a major structural and cultural realignment. This initiative involved the outsourcing of activities and the redefining of those roles that remained in-house. Our role was to coach the change leaders and to assist them through a process that represented both organisational and personal challenge. Many of these people were highly competent in the IT space but were less well equipped to deal with major personnel change. The outcome of this intervention was that many of the change leaders developed new leadership skills and a greater appreciation of their ability to lead their teams and cope with the personal challenges associated with the change.

Developing organisational capabilities |
- Foreign Affairs and Trade - Kevin developed and has delivered the two day Building Future Leaders workshop for a division within Foreign Affairs and Trade these past 2 years. In addition to the workshop, the participants receive tailored coaching to assist them with specific work related and career issues. This organisation is experiencing a period of rapid growth in terms of people and in the demands placed on it by its customers. At the same time, the organisation's aging population has meant a number of senior people with corporate knowledge are retiring. The net effect of this growth combined with an aging demographic has been people moving rapidly into leadership positions without the luxury of time to develop the requisite leadership skills. The program has been successful and Kevin has now completed the twenty fifth iteration - over 240 participants have attended the workshop and received coaching to date.
- Defence - Finance Group - The organisation sought to achieve a new level of cooperation and a sense of one organisation across a division within the finance group. Our approach was a 360° team assessment followed by a workplace simulation and individual coaching. This intervention has achieved a new sense of empowerment by the senior leadership and new forums and approaches to innovative thinking, problem resolution and communication.
- Senior Executive Coaching Assignments - Kevin is currently engaged by a number of organisations to provide coaching for their senior executives and for those people who represent the future leadership of the organisation. These assignments include an international clientele with clients in China and the United States. In all instances, Kevin's primary focus is on achieving improved organisational capability. He achieves this through self awareness by senior leaders and through their personal insights into the leadership behaviours required to ensure success.
